When we are born, we are born with a sense of knowing of our journey and our path.
Minmia (Aboriginal senior woman, educator and healer), explains this in her book ‘Under the Quandong Tree’:
“Everybody on this planet has a unique fingerprint, hair print and DNA. And everyone on this planet has a unique Miwi print and this holds the coded instructions for our life’s journey and chosen teachings, all billions of us. The prints are like thin films of plastics on top of the placentas. Our journey and the instructions are already written on these, they are sacred, and the one who guides us is Nungeena-tya (Mother Earth).
So when a child is born, and the placenta is buried, that Miwi print goes into Nungeena-tya (mother earth). The placenta is extremely rich so it nourishes her. The earth needs nourishment as much as we need nourishment. It is a two-way thing. It also honours the Earth by placing the responsibility for our child’s journey in her. The Miwi print just lies there for 12-14 years until that child spills seed. As it hits the Earth, the seed is recognised instantly, almost as if it enters a computer data system. Nungeena Tya then goes back to wherever the Miwi print was buried and locks it in. She then acts to ground and guide the ‘wanai’ on her journey throughout this physical life.”
For many of us who didn’t have that experience with our placenta, we can do a rebirthing ceremony. I’ve witnessed and been taught by Minmia about birthing and rebirthing ceremony. I have experienced it for myself. It is a powerful ceremony.
The photo here is from the placenta print of my youngest son. It is a beautiful way to keep a memory of such important part of the baby’s life and journey.
